A shelter that operates today, and a self-sustaining gaushala model built around the integrated cycle of the cow.
What we run and what we are building
Charity keeps a gaushala open. It rarely makes one sustainable. Our project plan is built around the integrated cycle of the cow — milk, dung, urine, bullock power — so that the shelter eventually funds a large share of its own running costs and creates rural jobs while doing it.

Response to calls about abandoned, injured or accident-affected cattle, including transport and lifting. Ambulance support in our earliest days came from our patron, Mahant Mangaldas Udasin ji.
Wound treatment, medicines and follow-up care. Most animals arrive needing treatment before they need anything else.
A 25,000-litre underground storage tank, begun 14 May 2025, after months of trucking in water daily for roughly 65 animals because the site's own water did not suit them.
Steel-framed sheds with roofing and shade netting, rebuilt in July 2025 after heavy rain and wind destroyed the earlier wooden structure.
Respectful burial for cattle that die of age or injury — an obligation written into our Memorandum of Association, not an afterthought.
Planned
Every output of a cow has a use. The project below turns each of them into either a saving or an income for the shelter and the village around it.
Groups of ten indigenous cows — five milking, five non-milking — run with local families. Ten such groups produce around 250 litres of milk a day, alongside 2,000 kg of dung and 1,000 litres of urine.
Ten cattle produce 100–125 kg of dung a day, enough for 4 m³ of biogas — sufficient for a five-member family's cooking, lighting and some electricity. Roughly 1 kWh comes from 0.75 m³ of gas.
Production of panchgavya and cow-urine formulations — organic liquid fertiliser, bio-pesticide sprays, soap, dhoop and floor cleaners — from dung, urine, milk, curd and ghee.
Digested slurry from the biogas plant becomes fertiliser — about 10.95 tonnes a year per plant — used for field crops and to cultivate medicinal and herbal plants for local health care.
A production unit for agarbatti, phenyl, dental powder, cleansing powder and similar daily-use goods made from cow dung and urine — replacing chemical products and creating village enterprise.
Beneficiary groups are small and marginal farmers, landless labourers, women, SC/ST households and unemployed rural youth, supported through training, marketing help and self-help groups linked to NABARD and rural development schemes.
Government departments and CSR committees can adopt any single unit of this project — the biogas plant, the veterinary block, the fodder godown — with a costed proposal and utilisation reporting.
